Current Industrial Placement Student
Kelcie Bons is a physics BSc undergraduate at the University of Bath and will complete her industrial placement year at SLE in 2021. Kelcie says “I have completed 11 weeks of my placement and I have already learned a lot about the physics behind display technology, about real experimental work and about how the work place functions, all while having a good time. Research and development for a technology company is what I was hoping it would be: using physics theory and experiments in novel and interesting ways to make cool products (like foldable displays!), being part of a field which is constantly evolving and progressing and performing experiments that may actually contribute to the development of new products.
I participate in thinking of experiments that will help us reach our goals or solve problems, perform the experiments, analyse and interpret the results, present these results and undertake background reading in order to better understand the experiments and find new ideas. I am given a lot of independence and responsibility while still having guidance and help when I need it. This I believe makes the job more engaging, motivating and meaningful.
Unfortunately, most lunchtime social activities are currently on-hold because of the pandemic. However, we have been doing an outdoor table tennis tournament which has been a lot of fun! Everybody is very nice so I definitely recommend you apply!
Kelcie is developing technology for foldable displays.
