SLE Receives Royal Visitor
His Royal Highness, the Duke of Kent visited Sharp Laboratories of Europe, Ltd. (SLE) on November 29, 2012 as part of a tour of the Oxford Science Park. He was welcomed by Dr. Takayuki Yuasa, SLE Deputy Managing Director, and Dr. Ian Thompson, Director of Business Development and Administration. The Duke was accompanied by Tim Stevenson OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, and Charles Young, Investment Bursar, Magdalen College, University of Oxford.
After hearing an overview of Sharp and SLE from Dr. Thompson, the Duke, who has a strong interest in technology, toured the laboratory. Dr. Jon Heffernan talked about the development of compound semiconductors, and Dr. Chris Brown explained the electronics, design, and test capabilities for silicon-on-glass display.
The visit took a personal turn when Dr. Thompson was explaining the Dual View display researched and developed at SLE. His Royal Highness realized that he uses Sharp Dual View technology in his personal car.
