The European Design Centre plays an instrumental role in developing Sharp's "mobile" LCD technology for European customers' products.

For mobile phone devices, achieving optimum cost-performance is paramount. We develop advanced System LCDs, based on Sharp's high performance Continuous Grain Silicon TFT process that allows higher levels of system integration. For example, our designs typically feature display addressing circuits and DCDC converter circuitry integrated onto the display panel. |

As mobile devices develop with multi-media applications, and strive to retain intuitiveness, the demands on the display are increasing. Higher pixels per inch, improved mechanical performance, environmental sensing, lower power consumption, touch sensitivity, haptic feedback, curved and conformable image surfaces will all feature in our future generations of displays. |

LCDs are a key enabling display technology for cars, and are set to become the focal point of driver information, navigation, camera-fed imaging, and entertainment systems. Optimization of display performance over a wide range of temperatures, viewing angles, and ambient lighting conditions is an essential requirement for these applications. Our designs also have to be robust to withstand usage over long lifetimes at high temperatures, humidity and vibration conditions.

The introduction of higher contrast displays provides exceptional driver viewing experience in both night driving and bright sunlight driving conditions. In the future, Sharp’s multi-view technologies will be enhanced, and new display designs based on curved or non-rectangular LCD modules tailored for the automotive cockpit will be developed.
