Sharp worldwide
Sharp has been serving consumers since 1912. That is when Tokuji Hayakawa set up a metal works in Tokyo. In 1915 he invented a propelling pencil that he called the “EverSharp” pencil, a product that eventually gave the company its name. Eversince those early days Sharp has supplied consumers with a wide range of leading products.
Tokuji Hayakawa lost his first factory, many of his employees and family
in the great Kanto earthquake of 1923. He established a new factory in Osaka
and began making crystal radio sets. Some people say that the determination
to overcome adversity and to provide consumers with completely new products
was born in Sharp at that time and persists to this day. Certainly it was
the start of Sharp as a consumer electronics company.
